Is this an Australian ban on AI music?
No. ARIA controls eligibility for its official charts and awards. The rule does not make AI music illegal, remove it from streaming services or prohibit musicians from using generative tools.
What does “substantially human-made” mean?
ARIA's published test focuses on the main creative elements of the recording. Human songwriting, lead vocals and primary instrumental performances support eligibility; a wholly prompted recording or AI-generated lead performance can move the recording outside the eligible category.
What should an AI-assisted artist preserve?
- dated lyric, composition and arrangement drafts;
- vocal and instrument session files;
- project stems and revision history;
- the AI service and model used;
- the role AI played in each named recording;
- credits and proof that the service was authorised and lawfully used.
The exact evidence requested may change by distributor, label, chart or dispute. Preserve the process before a release is challenged, rather than trying to reconstruct it later.
