AI music and Content ID: what to check first
Permission to release a track commercially does not automatically make it eligible as a Content ID reference. Check exclusive rights, the material in the reference and the requirements of the partner submitting it.

1. Separate uploading from claiming other videos
Content ID uses reference material to find matches in other uploads. YouTube’s eligibility guidance requires exclusive rights in the territories being claimed and sufficiently distinct material. A music release check and a rights-management check answer different questions.
2. Check components, not only the generator plan
YouTube lists non-exclusively licensed material and production loops among examples that are ineligible as references. Inspect what is actually in this version of your recording. A commercial-use license and an exclusive right to claim matching uploads are different grants.
3. Prepare a precise question for your delivery partner
Before requesting enrollment, gather the facts and ask the partner to confirm the exact scope:
- Which final recording and reference segments will be submitted?
- Which components were generated, licensed or supplied by someone else?
- What supports exclusive rights in each claimed territory?
- Does this partner’s Content ID product accept this type of material?
4. Run a separate rights-management goal
Select Content ID as its own goal in the free checker and read its source scope. A distribution result cannot stand in for that answer. If exclusivity or a partner policy is unresolved, keep the result unknown until you have an applicable answer. The Passport can save the check but cannot establish exclusivity.
