Boy George's AI-assisted song triggers a platform and band dispute

Boy George says artificial intelligence was used to create We Will Dance Again, a pro-Israel reggae song first posted to his social accounts in late July. He described AI as necessary for expressing a position he believed would have been difficult to develop with another musician.

The disclosure quickly became part of the release itself. Bandcamp removed the song under a policy that prohibits audio wholly or substantially generated by AI. Boy George later said musicians in his band who refused to perform it would be fired.

The dispute is not only about whether an artist may use a generator. It combines authorship, platform moderation and the responsibilities of human collaborators asked to perform a generated or politically contentious work.

A song can create several consent questions

Boy George chose the subject, published the song and defended its message. AI involvement does not remove that authorship or responsibility. At the same time, disclosure does not automatically settle whether a distributor must host the track or whether band members must participate in a live version.

This is a case where "made with AI" is the beginning of the story rather than its conclusion: the useful record is who made which decisions, what the platform policy covers and where collaborators retained a choice.
