BMG and Suno settle past use and agree on a licensed AI-music partnership

BMG and Suno have announced a global strategic alliance covering both future collaboration and Suno's prior use of BMG recordings and publishing works.

The companies say participating artists and songwriters will be able to choose whether to take part and will be compensated. The announcement is tied to Suno's planned first model developed with music-industry partners, although the exact catalog access, payment formulas and creator controls are not public in the launch material.

A settlement is not a universal license

The deal resolves issues between these parties. It does not license every composition or recording that may have been used to train Suno, and it does not end separate cases brought by other labels, publishers or collecting societies.

For users, the partnership is part of a larger product transition. Suno has said older models will be retired when the new generation launches, while existing songs will remain in user libraries. The rights and download rules applying to new models therefore need to be read together with Suno's updated terms rather than inferred from the partnership headline alone.
